Cranberry Margaritas!

Who doesn't like a margarita?

I usually serve these at our annual Christmas par-tay but they're so bright and refreshing I think they'd be nice beside the grill in the heat of summer too.

Besides, it's full of cranberry juice and lime juice! It's good for your parts!

You want to maintain your parts don't you?

Now you're going to need some tequila. Good smooth tequila. This will do.

Since we're freezing them we need to put them in a freezable container! A Ziploc bag is perfect for this. You want something you can bang around a little to break up the ice.  Why is my cooking always so loud and violent?

Now for the Triple Sec. Triple Sec is orange liqueur. My husband likes Grand Mariner. I like the price of this one better. It's proof (alcohol level) is similar to Grand Mariner.

In it goes! Now the fumes coming off of this stuff will burn your eyes. ACK!

Now for lime. These are pretty sweet so you need quite a bit of sour to balance them in my opinion. So half a lime if it's a big one or a whole one if they're just tiny little things like this one.

Is it bad that I get most of my vitamin C from cocktails?

Cranberry juice cocktail! Pure cranberry juice would be entirely too sour. I imagine you can buy it somewhere but you certainly couldn't drink it because your mouth would pucker up so badly you couldn't sip!

In it goes!

It's ready for the freezer. I like to put the bag in a second container just in case the bag leaks. You can just scoop out what you need in the evening.

The weekend's here!

Usually I make these a week ahead of time because it takes awhile to freeze them!

If you want one quicker, take a cup of the cocktail and put it in a gallon bag. Spread it out on a metal cookie sheet in the freezer. You'll have a margarita in an hour! You might have to do this just to test them and make sure they're okay for the guests . . .

Cranberry Margaritas

6 cups cranberry juice cocktail
1 cup tequila
1/2 cup triple sec
juice of half a lime

Mix ingredients together and freeze. It freezes pretty solid so let it set out a good 15 minutes before you try to break into it! Makes 2 qts.

Cranberry margarita for one

3/4 cup cranberry juice cocktail
2 Tbsp tequila
1 Tbsp triple sec
juice from a wedge of lime

Mix ingredients together and freeze in a plastic bag spread on a cookie sheet. Frozen goodness in under an hour.

  1. In all seriousness, a cranberry margarita for one just isn't enough. I have a feeling a few people I know could drink the whole 2 qts. I'm NOT naming names.

P.S. We could have a food and beverage swap...jalepenos for cranberry margaritas. Just a thought.
